Youth Waterfowl Camp

Each year MVHFA hosts a youth waterfowl camp in memory of Ean Reinold. Ean lost his life in a tragic boating accident on the Mississippi River on October 14, 2017. Ean was an avid outdoorsman and a member of MVHFA who greatly enjoyed our youth waterfowl events, and his love of waterfowl hunting is kept alive by his family partnering with MVHFA for this event. The attendees learn about boating and hunting safety, calling tips, hunting tips, each youth receives at least one prize from our raffle table, and we end the day with a trap shoot.

The 2020 event saw a record of 52 youth attendees and their accompanying guardians. Curstin Rutledge of West Point, IA, Wade Walling of Quincy, IL, and Dan Goetz of Columbia, IL were our guest professional callers and as always they offered many calling and hunting tips as well as putting on a great show with their contest calling routines.

The 2021 event was hosted again at South Side Boat Club with another 43 youth attendees. President Glenn Sanders taught some hunting and boating safety tips, Curstin Rutledge of West Point, IA did another phenomenal job teaching our youth some duck calling tips, Alex Moeller and Adam Brocksieck taught some goose calling and hunting tips with the building sounding like a flock of 40+ geese for a while, and the evening was finished off with dinner, prizes, and some BB gun shooting.
